Career and Technical Education
Through our three Academies of Nashville pathways, we work to equip all students to be citizens, scholars and leaders by engaging them through academics and creative career- and service-based learning experiences. And it shows: In 2015, Pearl-Cohn students earned more than $3.5 million in college scholarships, 81 percent of our graduates received college admissions and we increased our graduation rate by 15 percent.
- Our Freshman Academy provides support and guidance to incoming students, ensuring they land on a pathway toward a future they're excited to pursue. During sophomore year, students enter their area(s) of interest.
- The Academy of Entertainment Industry includes pathways in Audio Engineering and A/V Production/Broadcasting. Students participating in this Academy have the opportunity to earn industry certifications and produce programs for both local and national television affiliates airing weekly and around the country in our state-of-the-art, $1.2 million recording studio. In partnership with Warner Music Group, Pearl-Cohn is the first school in the nation to house a student-run recording label affiliated with a major recording label. Students have the opportunity to work with artists in phases including song creation, production and distribution.
- The Academy of Health Science and Personal Care includes pathways in Medical Assisting and Personal Care Services/Stylist and Image Consulting (Cosmetology). Students in the Medical Assisting pathway have opportunities to partner with local post-secondary institutions business partners to earn certifications that allow students to immediately start working in the healthcare industry after high school. These partnerships also provide students with a pathway to medical school. Cosmetology students prepare to work in the personal care field and earn hours towards their license.
Extracurricular Activities
There are so many extracurricular activities for our students to explore, it's hard to cover them all. The ever-popular Pearl-Cohn marching band provides an outlet for students who wish to explore their musical talents. Other clubs include robotics, creative writing, debate/speech, and radio/television. Our dynamic athletic program is well recognized, as well, with our football and basketball programs consistently reaching post-season play and challenging for state championships. We offer 12 additional TSSAA sports, including baseball, girls' and boys' soccer, wrestling, and cheerleading/dance, to name a few.
