Hello and Welcome, Firebird Families!
We’re thrilled to welcome you to the Freshman Academy at Pearl-Cohn — where the journey to an incredible high school experience begins! I’m Dr. Lavette Dunham, your Freshman Academy Principal, and I can’t wait to partner with you and your student for an amazing year ahead.
Our team of passionate teachers and staff is ready to guide your student through a strong start to high school. Every Ninth Grader will be enrolled in core courses and receive social and emotional support designed to help them thrive. We also offer advanced academics, exciting clubs, and extracurricular activities that spark creativity, leadership, and fun.
Here’s something we’re especially proud of: our academy is currently being considered for official Academies of Nashville accreditation — a big milestone that will bring even more opportunities and recognition to our students. Plus, we’re one of the few schools where freshmen can take an AP course right away, putting them on track to become a Ready Graduate under MNPS standards.
Whether your student is coming from one of our feeder schools or joining us from another MNPS family, we’re ready to make this a memorable and empowering freshman year.
